About Arhythmetic Units

Independent
by design.

Arhythmetic Units makes instruments and tools for electronic music. A one-person company, built to stay that way.

01 / The work

Sound and software.

Arhythmetic Units grew out of experiments in digital signal processing and software synthesis. Free VCV Rack modules came first; the work has since expanded into plugins and standalone applications.

Potato Chips, RackNES, and Fourier remain freely available for VCV Rack. Maw and Quadra take that work into vocal synthesis and DJ performance. Both are in development.

02 / Music

Listening.

More than a decade in the electronic music scene informs the work. A fascination with sound design, rhythm, and the possibilities of synthesis runs through it.

Tipper, G Jones, Mickman, Resonant Language, Supersillyus, EPROM, Boards of Canada, Squarepusher, Noisia, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Shpongle are part of the listening behind it.

03 / Background

Engineering and research.

Behind the software is a researcher and engineer with a PhD and a background in signal processing, emulation, and applied machine learning.

Some of that work is documented in papers and technical reports, sharing the methods and tradeoffs behind the instruments.
