Chip synthesis
Build a voice from chip emulations.
Potato Chips brings the synthesis methods of classic sound chips into individual modules. Work with pulse waves, four-operator FM, and wavetables, each with the controls and constraints of the chip it emulates.
Connect the oscillators, envelopes, filters, and echo to the sequencers and modulation sources you already use. The modules generate and process sound directly; no game or ROM is needed.
Sound-chip synthesis.
Pulse waves, FM, and wavetables drawn from classic sound chips, available as individual modules.
Voltage control.
Sequence and modulate chip parameters with the control sources already in your rack.
Oscillators and effects.
Combine oscillators, envelopes, filters, and echo to build a voice or process another module’s output.
An idea to patch
Patch a pulse voice with echo.
The Ricoh 2A03-inspired oscillator is a good first stop. Search for Infinite Stairs in the Library, or Staircase 2A03 in the updated build.
Make a pulse.
Connect the first pulse output to your audio chain. It is a free-running oscillator, so you can hear it before adding a gate.
Give it a phrase.
Patch a sequencer or MIDI-CV into V/Oct. Use an envelope and VCA for note articulation, then explore the pulse-width control.
Shape the repeats.
Add Echo, then adjust the eight FIR coefficients to change the tone of its repeats.
